Shoes, shoes and more shoes ..
It appears that summer has finally reared its head in France (at last!!) so now we can really get down to business… Let’s talk about shoes ! More specifically, this seasons trends…
Apart from sling backs, spartan sandals, ballerinas and flip flops that we automatically find each summer, I have also seen during my photo shoots, lace up shoes, that come up the calf and shin (not the most practical I agree), sublime summer boots, and fringed toe posts in leather or suede, graphic platform shoes, over the top trainers, colorful sneakers, flat and healed mules (not really my thing either way) and lets not even begin with the return of the slipper (no comment)…
Back to basics ..
But finally the main stars of this season, are still espadrilles, these little cord made shoes, that remind us of summertime and are ever present in all summer collections, which has been the case for several seasons now..
The new style that is also doing really well this year is the “slip on“, this kind of espadrille, half trainer, half sandal, without laces and with a rubber sole… absolutely sublime in both black and white for a sporty chic style, very comfy too, for example… Certain brands have even created a mix between the espadrille and the slip on, which is the case for my Jimmy Choo.. This has a really cool look, with a sole slightly healed, half in rubber and half cord, more solid and resistant than a cord sole ….
Spoiled for choices ..
In short, I have tried both the espadrilles and the slip ons in all colors and all brands possible and imaginable during photo shoots, and I can tell you that there is certainly something for all tastes and preferences and budgets… even if of course, I personally prefer the versions created by the top brands, as I find them to be much more chic, elegant and give a much more trendy style. My favorite models are by Kenzo, Yves St Laurent, Tory Burch, Chloé, Miu Miu Burburry, Chloé, Chanel, Jimmy Choo , Balenziaga etc.. All these designers had revisited and revised the espadrilles in correlation to their brand and their specific look and style of there latest collections, but my absolute favourite, for both men and women is the Jimmy choo collection…
There is a little drawback in that all the beautiful brands are also the most expensive.. of course.. But the good news is that the sun is coming slap bang in the middle of the sale season.. So we can find the espadrilles and slip ons of our dreams at much more reasonable prices on some good websites that offer top brands and interesting selections such as Mytheresa, Monnier Frères or Shop my Style for men…
A trendy look for both him and her ..
Depending on your espadrille choice, you can create a smart, funny, cool, summer, sharp, casual look .. or even a frumpy look .. so be careful on your choice of motifs, material, morphology and especially the manner in which we wear them .. I love wearing mine with turned up jeans, wide leg trousers, a long dress or with a simple pair of leggings .. And I like them to be slightly healed and not completely flat to elongate the leg, as the flat version tend to cut us off a bit..Try to avoid the whole “ old shoe” look, where the heel crushes the back of the shoe, unless you feel it looks really good … but I somehow doubt it ..
For the men, espadrilles look perfect with a slightly worn jean, a basic t shirt or vest with a good cut.. simple, comfy and efficient.. Here too, the choice of color and material of the espadrille is imperative… And for this reason the Jimmy choo version is very elegant and ideal to be worn in the town in a sort of dandy chic style, or on holiday for a much more casual look while still being styled… And also they are so comfortable, my partner has tested them and hasn’t taken them off since 😉
So there you have the IT shoes for this summer 😉
