My body just said STOP after years of taking the pill .. I had been thinking about stopping it before but I did not find any better contraception form, so I just carried on..This time, my body spoke for me and I had really no choice but to quit, which, after all, was not so bad … There are not so many contraception forms, and the fews methods we get offered are not really “body friendly”… But how can i still having sex with peace of mind if not on the pill anymore ? Ok we have condoms … but when you are in a longterm relationship, you might feel like dropping it ..
I am a “ready-to-try” kind of girl, so I did try the smallest and hormon-free copper IUD ..bad idea …It has been a complete and painful failure : as I am a nulliparous (not having children woman), the insertion was terrible and traumatizing to my uterus, to carry it was also uncomfortable, my belly was always hurting and a bit bigger than usual .. The happy ending of my 6 months with an IUD story ended up in Bankok, being on vacation – my body could not take it anymore and i had to be taken to the E.R in pretty bad shape, and got it removed under general anesthesia …Well, after that episod, here i was, back were i started with no contraception.. Contraception patch or hormonal implant : no way cause it’s similar to pill method, and not body-friendly at all .. And of course, let’s skip the “coïtus interruptus“ or withdrawal method, which is nor the safest, nor the best way to enjoy the final part… Here comes my cute clearblue contraception monitor …
What is it ?
It is important to mention that it is a natural and free of side effect method, unlike the pill, IUD, implants, patch …When you open this small purple case, it looks like a mini computer.You do not ingest anything and the device is really easy to use once you get throught the explanations.
You just have to think about buying the urine test strips you will have to “plug ” in the Clearblue’s side .(just so you know, once you have peed on the strip, you close the cap to plug it into the device ..)
How is it working?
Once you have purchased your device + the urine test strips box, you will just have to wait for your period’s first day to use it as the clearblue calendar starts calculating at mense’s day 1.When you finally get your periods (which can take for ever after a longtime on the pill ) just enter the time and day in the clearbue application.
Normally, and if your menstrual cycle is “normal”, between the 6 th day and the 15 th day of your cycle, there are 8 morning urine tests to do … can be more, depending of each girl’s length of cycle ..The clearblue device detects hormone’s variation in your body thanks to the urine test strip. It is monitoring the estrogen and luteinizing hormone’s level and determines the days when you could get pregnant – a few days before ovulating, during ovulation and a few days after .Those days are crossed in red, which means “no sex ” unless you want to conceive ;-)When the day is red, just go watch a movie or keep to foreplays but be careful ;-)The other cycle’s days are safe and appear in green, which means go ahead, there is no risk of getting pregnant 🙂 Let’s have fun !
Reliability ?
According to Clearblue, this system is 94 percent reliable. I have been using it for almost 2 years, i’m still not pregnant and my body is “happy”.
This method is easy to use ; you don’t have to take unhealthy and full of side effects hormones to fool your body, and this menstrual cycle’s calendar is really interesting as you know exactly what is going on inside of yourself.
You know when you are ovulating or when you are about to.. which can explain some mood swings, craving for love or any emotional crises .. loool
Because she took the pill for such a long time, my sister’s cycle was a bit chaotic when she started to use clearablue, but with patience and caution, everything got back on track . Costs ?
On the internet you can get the device + a urine test strip box for 100 euros .. It can also be found in drugstores but you may have to order it. Just be careful to order the good Clearablue device for contraception and not the other one for conception, which is another story 😉
