We hear a lot about cosmetic treatments for women, in terms of taking care of ourselves and ageing gracefully, but what about men ? They too want to feel & look good for their age , take care of their skin, imperfections and reach their aesthetic goals .. so by popular demand, we decided to dedicate an article to (non-invasive) aesthetic treatments for men.
We have been going to Catherine de Goursac in Paris for years now. She has been an aesthetic specialist for over 20 years and is an expert in all the latest techniques in terms of skincare treatments for both the face and body. I won’t talk about botox or injections to fill in or reduce wrinkles as these are well known and they can be used – sparingly – as and when they are needed. Instead, the idea of this article is to introduce you to treatments which treat and improve the appearance of the skin by stimulating it deeply. So, Peter tried out quite a few techniques to share his feelings on the results.
Microdermabrasion ..
Peter calls this sandblasting. He loves this treatment which gives him amazing results. Afterwards, his skin is more uniform and softer, and he has less skin problems like open pores or imperfections. Microdermabrasion is the perfect treatment for normal to combination skin, or the one which is quite thick, with an uneven texture, acne prone or with open pores. It deeply, but gently, cleanses the skin, smoothing it and really making it glow, improves the condition and the texture, as well as minimizing open pores, blackheads, fine lines or even light scars by stimulating the microcirculation and the production of collagen.
For the treatment, the doctor uses a device which projects micro crystals onto the skin, which have an abrasive effect and remove the outer layers of the epidermis. At the same time, the device also sucks out cellular debris. This technique isn’t painful, and you need 4 sessions for optimal results. Avoid doing this on skin which is too thin, reactive, sensitive or broken
>> i.e. skin with spots, eczema, melasma or similar conditions).

Mesolift ..
This is one of our favorite skincare treatments as it deeply nourishes the skin and gives it a real immediate boost, especially for the skin around the eyes. The doctor makes lots of little dots on the face, penetrating a cocktail of vitamins (A, B1, B2, B5, B8, B9, C, E), minerals (calcium, magnesium, essential amino acids & co-enzymes) and non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid (which means it doesn’t act to change the volume, but rather it’s goal is simply to hydrate).
A real shot of super skin food is applied to the skin, which is perfect for tired or sensitive skin, dull complexions and the eye area, the chest, hands or smile lines, which are all fragile areas and have a tendency to wrinkle. It should be done every 15 days or once a month to maintain effects, and is especially relevant in the winter or holidays in the sun for example… This treatment isn’t painful, it just stings a little depending on where you have it.

Radiofrequency .
Ideal for firming the skin & fighting against sagging, this technique, which consists of using radiofrequency waves to heat the tissue, is an amazing anti-aging skincare option. For the face, a facelift-like effect is activated after 6 weeks, while for the body, the goal of the radiofrequency is to reduce cellulite and fat volume (on the abs, arms, thighs and buttocks). The application process is mostly pleasant, for both the face and the body. Peter did 2 sessions on his face. We’ll wait for the 6 weeks to see the final result, but it has already freshened him up and, above all, it’s really nice. 😉

Imperfections, spots & skin affected by mask wearing ..
The doctor has set up several protocols to fight against problems linked to acne, whether hormonal or localised, as a result of wearing a mask for exemple. At her practice, she offers dermatological skin cleansing, light peelings, or adapted purifying treatments. However, as every skin problem is personal, it’s better to discuss this with her. Peter tried the dermatological skin cleansing treatment as well as the purifying skincare treatment, applied to the areas aggravated by wearing a mask.
>>I also gave it a go and it was super-efficient in terms of making imperfections disappear quickly and purifying the skin.

Thread lifts ..
This is a great alternative to a face lift, which helps to open up the face, refirm skin, redefine the oval shape of the face or even restructure the jawline, without any downtime .. This technique is a bit more invasive than those detailed above, but it’s not very painful as it’s under local anaesthetic, there is no need to put your life on hold for recovery and you see results immediately. The results are often impressive and last for one-and-a-half years or more. For men, the jawline is often restructured to make the face more “masculine” and redefine its contours. I’m talking about this technique as apparently there are lots of men who are insecure about whether their jawlines are pronounced enough (a little like us with our breasts). If the threads can help some people feel better in their skin, it’s definitely worth asking for advice on the subject, especially as Catherine de Goursac is also specialised in this.
Getting them inserted is fairly quick. After injecting the relevant areas with a local anaesthetic, the doctor inserts several threads to redefine the contours of the face, then adds hyaluronic acid around the lines of the jaw to make the jawline more prominent & symmetrical. The results are immediate and it’s super beautiful when it’s done well. Lots of American stars (both men and women) have used this technique. As for the price, this varies according to the number of threads needed, and whether hyaluronic acid is necessary. The best thing is to set up an appointment with the doctor to evaluate your needs and what is best for you.
>> She can also fill in the temples, which can become hollow over time and give certain male faces an angular, bony appearance. Apparently, this is also quite common. It brings symmetry to the face and makes it seem more rounded, younger and softer. The doctor uses hyaluronic acid for this.
Hairs removal, beard & hair .. ..
There are also quite a few skincare treatments at the practice to treat hair loss or fragile hair, as well as beard follicles and other hair problems. There is also electric epilation for sensitive areas like the face, nose and ears. Peter didn’t try out all of these techniques as he hasn’t got these problems (yet ^^), but don’t hesitate to ask for advice to find out which treatment is best for you. Sometimes all it takes is a few laser or mesotherapy sessions to make life easier and get rid of insecurity.

his list of treatments is not exhaustive and there are many different techniques which are adapted to individuals’ needs. The best thing to do, is to set up a meeting with the doctor for precise diagnostics, and she will advise you based on that. Don’t hesitate to comment if you have questions or want to share your experiences and your favourite treatments. 😉
