#What is cellulite ?

 

Cellulite, orange peel skin, water retention.. those cute plagues are like hair on the legs, we do not
understand quite well why we have them, but I guess we have to learn to deal with it !

These fat cells, also named adipocytes, are located under the skin. When they become engorged with fat and grow disproportionately, the blood and lymph vessels can not properly drain water and toxins anymore.. And then appears cellulite, or orange peel skin, or water retention, depending of your type .. To sum up, the cellulite on our legs, arms, hips and butt is the consequence of the fat cells getting too fatty.Nine out of ten girls are concerned by this phenomenon which can be increased just before period time .. Most of the women are affected by cellulite, no matter if they are tall, small, skin, big, fat, petite .. Only men (even if some have some as well) and a few privileged girls are spared.

There are 3 types of cellulites :

 

1/ Adipose cellulite

It is mainly located on the abdomen, hips, thighs, and saddlebags and it’s not painful when you pinched it .This kind of cellulite is the most common and is mainly the result of a heavy diet and a lack of physical activity .. which means that it can get a lot better with a healthy way of eating and regular work out ..

2/ Aqueous cellulite

This type of cellulite is the result of venous and lymphatic circulatory problems which can be a family legacy .. Aqueous cellulite tend to be aggravated before menses, or by an excessively sedentary lifestyle and a bad diet.It causes water and toxins retention and irregular skin surface like orange peel skin, heavy legs and a swollen effect…It can be painful when you pinch certain locations.The good news is : exercise and a good diet can improve this one too 😉

3/Fibrous cellulite 

This one is very painful when you pinch it , rather unsightly, and difficult to dislodge as it is deep and has been there for quite a while (hence the importance of an healthy and sporty routine).Getting rid of fibrous cellulite is a bit harder but you can do it !!!!

4/ Mixt cellulite

Each body is unique and so is cellulite ..You may tend to get water retention and have aqueous cellulite, or your body may stock fat and you’re a adipose or a fibrous cellulite type …but you may also have a mix of those three types… which is most of the time the case..Let’s introduce you the mixt cellulite ...
Let’s stay zen, there are many solutions to get rid of it or even better, to prevent it?

#Dear god, please give me my bikini body back…

Unfortunately, there is no miracle cure against orange skin.Training, healthy lifestyle, a zest of will and discipline are the only ways to limit fat storage and water retention, to tone up your body and smoothen your skin.. There is no big deal if you are not sure about your type of cellulite ..  start by changing a few bad habits in your daily routine and it will help your body in an healthier and positive way.I am myself very careful about my body shape all year being a model; I am eating healthy food and I am training hard even if sometimes it happens that I get lazy.

But I guess that if I had a different job, I would probably do what everybody does in wintertime: become more lazy,chilling in my sofa, letting my body sleep and get a bit out of shape in my winter warm blanket .. a few months before summer,  I would wake up and switch to the ” get summer ready mode ” , trying to catch up with a proper bikini body, enduring harsh and approximate diets, intensive sport sessions to get rid of my cellulite and extra winter kilos … And when september comes, summer would be over as well as my good and healthy resolutions: I would put the bikini and the body back into my closet until next season …..

Of course, doing this would not be the best idea as the body needs to be taken care of all year long and not just a few months a year. Eat good food and do exercice on a regular basis are the key if you want to stay in good health and shape without enduring the risk to see the cellulite getting worse – something that will happen if you play yoyo with your diet and work out. Let’s get started then, it is not so hard .. just take it step by step .. you just have to change a few habits to feel better in your body and in your head .. And you will become addicted as soon as you will see the first results 😉

#Eat healthy=>some changes in your plate are necessary

You can not pretend to ask your body to be fit and toned if you are eating fatty and heavy foods all the time like mc donalds, french fries, soda, candies .. etc you get the idea .We can eat everything or almost everything, and nothing has to be banished.. It is more a matter of what you eat, when you eat and how much you eat ..

-What : 

Make sure you add fresh food, veggies, seasonal fruits, raw food to your daily meals .. You can try new recipes, discover new tastes, new ways of cooking to see that you can eat tasty and healthy ..Colorful salads, green smoothies or fruits salads are a great and really tasty way to eat more “body friendly” .. The visual aspect is also an important factor of the dish: so play with the colors, spices, fresh herbs to make your plate look nice..Reduce as much as you can fatty foods, sweet and candies, alcohol.. Yes alcohol as well 😉

-When :

Ideally, we should always eat a light supper to avoid the body to stock the fatty while we are sleeping ..Good breakfeast, medium lunch and small super should be our daily routine. After a work out session, make sure you take a healthy snack like a smoothie and some nuts or a banana .

-How much: 

The quantity thing is a tricky thing to determine as it depends of each personne appetite. I let you appreciate if you are overcharging your plate or not, just keep in mind that it is always a matter of balance..

– If  you are a sweet tooth or a very addicted to sugar kind of person, try to gradually reduce the intakes and the amount to 1 time per day, and then every 2/3 day … try to calm down you sugar craving with fruits and green smoothies .

– If  you are a snack addict or need to eat something all the time kind of person , uses tricks .. for example replace the 19 PM salted and oily chips or peanuts by  fresh peas, diced carrots, sliced cucumber that you can dip in home made guacamole .. Regarding your 10 AM snack, take some nuts, a smoothie or a fresh banana instead of the oily donuts you were planing to grab at the bakery .. I’m sure your butt will say thanks ;-)Of couse you can have a treat once in a while .. it is important to let go .. but this post is not about letting go isn’t it ? so for now, let’s forget about the donut ..

– Drink : 

We are told a hundred times a day to drink a lot of water … some are saying 1 liter minimum, or even 1,5 … I don’t know about you but i can barely swallow 1 liter, sometimes less ..But I found a great way to drink more :  green tea .. it is easier for me to drink herbal or green tea and it is a perfect slim ally .. So just try that too, it may help you to drink more water 😉 Another way to drink more, lose weight and clean the body is lemon juice mixed with warm or fresh water .

#Get of your sofa and do some exercice 

The worst enemy of cellulite and water retention is activity ! So let’s do some ! Walk, run, dance, move, doc whatever you like  !! A more active and sporty lifestyle will prevent stagnation of lymphatic toxins which cause cellulite : training will burn the fatty, produce muscles, slim up the body and improve lymphatic circulation.. Consequently, the more you work out and the healthier you are eating, the fitter your silhouette gets and the better you feel in your  body ..

I know, easier saying but not always easy to do .. Just stay strong and keep going, it is going to be ok 😉 Another good point to cheer you up : The body keeps burning calories the night following the effort and sport is a natural appetite regulator ..

NB: some people are not hungry after intense work out .. but not everyone, which is my case.  After a cardio session or more intense training like boxing, i am really hungry ..  so just be careful not to eat like crazy after your gym session 😉 I always carry out with me a cereal bar, or a banana, some nuts, dry fruits and 1 box of fruit juice in my sport bag just in case i am getting hungry after work out and to avoid a ” bakery stop by to grab a donuts because i was craving” accident …

The perfect training to fight cellulite, develop your muscles,slim up and tone the body is a mix of cardio activity (running, biking,fitness, jumping rope) with muscles stenghtening, like heavy weight exercices, squat, push ups, everything that hurts a bit actually .. i guess this is when we say ” no pain no gain …” Take your pick to find out your ideal fitness place and sport combination, the one that makes you feel better in your body and mind, the one you will comitt to go at least 3 times a week … I must admit it is not always easy every day, sometimes we get lazy, tired, or are out of energy to go to the gym after work , but try to get over that, and you will be rewarded soon by the results. #No stress 

Being stressed or depressed is not good for cellulite … To sum up, to have a nice bottom, we must be happy and zen ..Well i have good news : our dear friend “work out ” make us happy thanks to the endorphines produced by the body during exercice ..Yoga, pilates and breathing exercices can be very useful to calm down, let go and center ourselves ..

#Massage 

Massage is a perfect and a complementary way to get rid of stress, cellulite, water retention and heavy legs.Specific sliming massages will stimulate the lymphatic and blood circulation, decongest the adypocyts and tone up our skin.The therapist will pinch, gently “slap” and do some rolling massage to eliminate cellulite and drain water .. it may be painful depending on the areas, but remember, painful means deep cellulite, so just relax and breathe ..

#Anti- cellulite or firming cream

Slimming creams, gels and oils are also great allies in our fight against orange peel skin.. Choosing one is not easy as it depend of each person’s body (check my top 5 cellulite cream ) .. I have tested quite a bunch and some are doing some magic, and others are just useless on me .. which does not mean though it is going to be the same for you ..

#And a last little tip ..

..if you can… Finish your shower with a spray of invigorating and firming cold water, from the feeand moving up to the legs …That is the theory .. and in spite of my good will, it is always hard for me to do the cold water part .. and when I do it (only in super hot summer day) i cannot make it last more than 3 seconds …So, if you have done the other tips above, food, work out, massage and bla bla bla, you have got a joker and the right to skip the cold water part 😉 But for the other parts, no pain, no gain 😉

 

Yes you can ..

Those small changes are not made to lose weight but to re-adjust some old and bad habits we may have .Eating healthier is good for our body and exercice creates peace of mind .. Our goal here is to feel good about ourselves, in our body and mind, in our lives .. And this starts with those small changes…

So, let take it softly, gently, step by step … start caring about your body, cherish it and respect it deeply 😉
