Today’s focus : The eyebrow…
This strange, bushy little thing that sits in the middle of our face is often neglected or not maintained appropriately… Nevertheless, it is an important component of our features that balances the lines and reveals an emotion or reaction. The eyebrow itself is so important, and if it is not shaped properly, or if it is ignored all together, it can be a disaster. In short, the eyebrow is a real beauty asset and needs attention, not neglect…
Gentlemen do not go anywhere, this applies to you, too 😉
But how do we take care of our eyebrows ?
….and a thousand other questions!!!How do I recognize my true eyebrow line and shape ? What if it is offset a little to the right or left, and how do I maintain it with my tweezers?? Too plucked, not plucked enough, too thin or too thick ?? What should I do ?? HELP !
To enlighten us on this subject, I have a meeting with Angélik Iffennecker ..
Passionate and talented make-up artist, Angelik is THE eyebrow specialist in Paris. According to her, the perfect eyebrow has a very well-defined, studied and sculpted shape, and yet is one that seems perfectly natural.. She has, moreover, just created a range of make up dedicated to this part of the face and she also runs classes to teach you all about your eyebrow line and how to maintain it.
Exactly what we needed!!!
Step 1 : The diagnosis ..
Angélik welcomes me to Frédéric Mennetrier’s studio @l’Atelier Blanc, a peaceful and uncluttered place in Paris .. Everything that I love… The program: a personalized diagnosis, followed by a tutorial on the beauty care of eyebrows..
For today’s meeting, I have let my eyebrows « run wild » and left them natural, and I look forward to putting my trust in the hands of an expert. She begins by seating me in front of a mirror and tells me in a matter of seconds what works and what doesn’t. She makes a very precise and clear diagnosis of what little things need to be done, so that my eyebrow line is in perfect harmony with my face.
Her instructions and explanations are clear, simple and precise. Angelik’s objective is for me to take care of my eyebrows independently, copying her techniques to maintain them for several months, before returning to see her again.. Regular shaping and sculpting, using the appropriate ‘tools’, will enable them to maintain a beautiful outline), making them look natural and perfectly drawn.
Step 2 : defining the eyebrow ..
She puts on a pair of odd-looking glasses, and begins shaping my right eyebrow with the help of some tweezers.. It is almost painless. The same cannot be said about the left one which, according to Angelik, is always more painful. Ouch, it actually is !!! But she is very soft and gentle and applies a small amount of cream which hydrates, calms and reduces the soreness that usually accompanies hair re removal ..
It’s actually not that bad…
The right eyebrow, along with the gap in-between the eyebrows, is finished, Verdict: top notch ! If I compare the right with the left, unfinished eyebrow, they are now, noticeably different. The right side of my face, with the newly defined eyebrow, looks more awake, more open and alive, whereas the left side looks indifferent, sleepy an almost sad.
Quiiiiiick let’s do the other one !!!
She defines the left eyebrow and it soon becomes equally as alive as the right side.
Step 3 : revealing and making up the eyebrow ..
Once the shape of the eyebrow is perfectly redefined, Angélik conceals the light red patches, caused by the hair removal. She then brushes my eyebrows gently with a soft brush before applying the pencil. The eyeliner range that Angelik has created, comes in 11 different shades, and is for women with all different hair colors and complexions. This makes it easier to find the right tint for our hair and skin.
=> All the brow pencils are, of course waterproof, and last all day. (I even made a mental note to test them during my workout. After one hour of intense cardio, I nearly died, but the pencil was still in place and my eyebrows looked fantastic! 🙂
According to my skin tone, we chose the number 4, which she proceeded to apply only to certain parts of the eyebrow, very carefully and gently, and always respecting the natural shape of the brow. Applying the eyebrow pencil allows you to redefine the eyebrow, intensify the colour, or thicken an eyebrow that is a little thin. The end result : my eyebrow is natural, impeccable, looks slightly thicker, is more defined, and the colour blends perfectly with my own.
Step 4 : final touch on the eyebrow ..
After applying the eyebrow pencil, Angelik applies her final touch: a light fixing gel that keeps the make-up in place. I have to admit I have never seen my eyebrows like that.
The end result is perfect and very natural.
Step 5 : Angélik words of wisdom …
To finish, Angelik makes me choose a card on which she proceeds to draw my eyebrows. She gives me a quick recap of everything that wasn’t right and how to repair and improve it. She then draws the areas of the eyebrow that require more liner for an optimum result. Several simple steps in the morning are all it takes to preserve my eyebrows => carefully brushing the eyebrow with the special brush, applying several strokes of eyebrow pencil and a light layer of protective gel to fix it in place and I’m good to go;-)
I leave motivated and well equipped with my brush, eyebrow pencil shade number 4 + the fixing gel by « Le Sourcil by Angélik Iffennecker » » , and of course with my drawing which will be stuck to the mirror and studied religiously every day…
To conclude …
It’s been a week since my meeting with Angélik.. My eyebrows are always perfect . I brush them , I apply the pencil and the fixing gel, following faithfully the instructions that she gave me.. The hard work has paid off… They are so good that my boyfriend now wants to pay Angelik a visit for a « male eyebrow special » (I have to say that eyebrow plucking for men is not quite the same as that for women. In order to keep the “male” character of the face, Angélik defines the eyebrows a little differently)
So now you know everything about eyebrow 😉
