On a beautiful Autumn day, we took full advantage of a walk in castle of Versailles, for a little well earned snack at Lenôtre, after walking for almost an hour in the enormous grounds of the castle …
The boutique, Lenôtre is located a few metres from the castle, in the heart of all the scents and smells…
This new arranged space, consists of a pretty paved and intimate spot surrounded by several other chic shops and a floral garden where you can sit and rest after wandering around the immense castle and grounds …. Of course The garden of scents is much more welcoming than the castle “à la française” gardens for a picnic or a little snack in between visits…
= > Just so you know, Versailles is a symbolic place of the history of perfume in France since the 18th century, and the courtyard of scents joins in this “cultural heritage” … That is why luxurious designer names such as Guerlain, Lenôtre, Diptyque or the house of Fabre are here in this place that is dedicated to the universe of perfume and traditions.
Party time …
Once at Lenôtre, everything looks tasty and it is very difficult to choose ..
But certain treats catch my attention … and as we are in the city of the King and Marie Antoinette, a royal selection is imperative …
We can taste the cakes on the terrace of the shop, but we prefer to take them with us and sit on the grass, at the heart of the garden of the scents ..
Individual macaroons Toiles de Jouy ..
I have to admit that these macaroons with their rural and brightly colored motifs have caught my eye and tempted me for some time now. They definitely create an impression no ? Chic and trendy with their unusual revisited motif painting, they definitely add a touch of originality to the plate…
I had spotted them in the shop window and finding them very inviting, I could not wait to try them…
There are 3 different flavoured macaroons with alternative motifs : pistachio nut with raspberries and vanilla, strawberry and praline and last but not least apricot and passion fruit …
We tasted all 3 and the unanimous winner is: pistachio nut and raspberry…
Attention, this series is a limited edition! These beautiful macaroons revisited by the designer Hervé Mat*jewski in homage to Mr Oberkampf, the founder of the factory of the famous paintings of Jouy … are only on offer for a few days at a time.

The majestic “soleil citron” ..
This cake is very beautiful aesthetically, and reminds me of the sun king and his passion for gold…
On a biscuit base, a dome of lemon cream sits, garnished with lemon peel and Mona Lisa biscuit…
Not bad at all, but I personally prefer the macaroons, especially the famous pistachio nut and raspberry…
An Arpeggio of colored and glittered macaroons ..
Feeling obligated by Versailles, I chose macaroons decorated in a very “Marie Antoinette” fashion, which are all tasty …
The spangled versions are Lenôtre creations and come in some rather unusual flavours. Cream of vanilla Bourbon and jasmine jelly, Marie Antoinette’s favourite flower.. I hesitated slightly before trying the latter, as jasmine has a rather strong smell, but much to my surprise, the result was very subtle and fine… A tribute perhaps to Marie Antoinette?? This one is also more of a regular classic and is available all the time at Lenôtre..
Special mention also to the Pinacolada flavoured one (pineapple, cream of coconut and rum) or of course the chocolate Usu one..
A delight …
After this royal snack, we resume our trip in the royal city.
And tomorrow’s menu will be work out and salad of course 😉
