But luckily, there is a simple and fast solution to avoid cutting the nail straight across where it has ripped… the “plaster” for the nail.
DIY : a plaster for the nail ..
For this you will need:
- 1 nail file + 1 buffer + 1 cuticule pusher
- 1 nail clipper + 1 cuticule cutter +nail cisors + boxwood stick
- Nail glue + silk wraps (cf : Peggy Sage special broken nails kit ) /or 1 piece of white kitchen roll, kleenex, or toilet paper will do just fine to replace the silk plaster ..
- Cuticle remover + Cuticul oil + Hand cream
- Matte nail polish or/and natural base treatment .
And of course a broken or damaged nail, or one that is starting to weaken at the edges. (The nail is only fixable if it is still hanging on by a thread. If it is completely broken off, leaving only a short nail, we can only wait patiently for it to grow again )
Step 1 / Preparing the nail
- Wash hands thoroughly, and carefully clean the surface and the bottom of the nail to be repaired, with a small brush. Wipe.
- Apply the emollient water to soften the cuticles, and push them away gently with the cuticule pusher . Wipe with a paper tissue.
- Polish slightly the surface of the nail, and file it to shorten slightly , or to give it a more attractive form.
Step 2 / Apply the plaster :
To repare the nail, use the adhesive silk wrap or a little piece of white kleenex, kitchen rôle, or even toilet paper doubled.
Personally I prefere the second option, as the outcome is more natural and not as thick, but both ways are very effective.
- Cut a little rectangle of silk wrap or kleenex (kitchen roll or toilet paper doubled)
- Apply a tiny dot of glue onto the tear/broken edge.
- Apply the “plaster” onto the tear and use the boxwood stick to adjust it. Leave it to dry for a moment.
- Cut away any excess wrap or paper using the cuticle cutter.
- Add a spot more glue. Again, leave it to dry.
Step 3 / the final touch :
- File delicately the suface and the edges of the nail and polish lightly with the other side of the polisher.
- Apply one coat of matte nail polish to protect the plaster and give it a more natural finish. You can also use a ‘strengthening‘ nail polish to protect and harden the nail even more.
- Apply a top coat of pink base for a natural manicure ; the BB nails pink base 8-1 treatment by Peggy Sage which I love for exemple .
- Apply some hydrating handcream and a little cuticle oil around the cuticles, and you are good to go, the nail is repaired 😉
