# DIY : the birsher müesli

“a good way to start your day “

cooking time : 15 minuts

baking time : none

I have discovered this wonderful homemade breakfast recipe while living in Cape town; to me it is a keeper 😉

The original birsher is made with oatmeal, raw grated apples, condensed milk, nuts and lemon juice.

But depending on your mood, your personal taste and the current season, there are many ways to make this recipe taste delicious.

You need :

– seasonal fruits of your choice (banana, apple, grapes, pineapple, mangos, rasberries, strawberries, kiwi, passion fruits, grated coconut.. etc)

– a handfull of nuts or/and seeds (peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds, pecan nuts, walnuts, sunflower seeds, etc)

– a bunch of tasty raisins (optional)

– coarsely ground wheat grains and/or spelt grains and/or rye grains

–> gluten free  version : millet, buckwheat, amaranth, quinoa

– yogurt, sour cream, and/our milk

–> lactose free: vegetal milk or soy yogurt

– honey, brown sugar, or agave syrup

-muesli  (optional)

-mango juice or any fruit juice of your choice

let’s cook :

The day before, do not forget to soak into mango juice half a bowl of the ground grains of your choice (can be a mix of wheat/spelt/rye)

The soaking make the grains easier to digest ..In the original recipe, the soaking is done with water, but the best bircher I ever had was soaked into mango juice .. so i keep doing it this way 😉

-the morning, grat an apple (or you can slice as well) and mix it with the soaked ground grains.

-add the other fruits cut into small pieces

-nuts of your choice and raisins

-cover with a large spoon of yogurt, cream or milk

-you can sprinkle with a few teaspoons of muesli

-to sweeten your bircher, use honey or agave syrup .

Enjoy this healthy breakfast with a green tea after your morning training or before a day at work..

Have a great day 😉
