Ostheopath for a healthy mind in a healthy body …
I have always taken my treasured pets to the osteopath, and the behavior of an animal, at the Vet osteopaths, is completely different as that at a “traditional vets”…The animals, before during and after the consultation are much more peaceful, less agitated, relaxed, and we can see quite clearly that they are very receptive to this kind of treatment and care, as they practically fall asleep on the vets table. An appointment at the osteopath usually lasts between 20 minutes and 1 hour. The practitioner places their hands on the animals body, and moves them around from time to time, gently, and according to the animals needs, knots and any blockages that he feels.
Osteopathy, allows the veterinarian practitioner “to identify” the animal on the inside, and to look after him better by prescribing, (if necessary) a very precise treatment, of homeopathy, Bach flowers or herbal plant based medicine (phytotherapy)..
This technique is also an excellent way of prevention and maintenance for the physical, psychological, and emotional part of the animal (and for us also). Osteopathy is perfect for all animals at any stage of their life .. For very young animals it allows balance, and helps with their posture, allows early on to prevent and compensate for certain defects, or for physical imbalance. For animals in the middle of life, it is excellent for maintenance, and for the oldest it relieves possible age related pain, such as degenerative osteoarthritis for example.. A maintenance check up is advised 1 or 2 times time a year .. This “maintenance” avoids, prevents and relieves numerous diseases, joint, muscular and nervous pains, posture problems, and issues with the internal organs, etc… While relieving tension and by cleaning the physical or energy related blockages of a wound, blow, or simply the stress or psychological trauma of the animal.
An osteopathic session is also recommended before, and especially after general anesthesia, or a surgical operation.. Before, because it prepares the body to receive ” the shock ” and the product of the anesthesia itself, and 10 days after the intervention, because it re-balances the body, and helps it to recover better from the “shock” of the operation..
Acupuncture /shiatsu/ acupressure ..
During a session of osteopathy, my veterinarian adds some acupuncture points, shiatsu or acupressure if the animal needs a stronger stimulation .. It helps complete the care. Of course it depends on the animal. We can put needles on a dog or a cat, but for all other animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, rodents, birds etc, we shall have to content ourselves with simple finger pressure in shiatsu, or acupressure for example ..
Homéopathy .. to treat symptoms but especially the cause !
As for us humans we use this remedy to quickly relieve symptoms, but also to cure the underlying causes, and clean up, while stimulating the natural defenses of the body. Homeopathy works on every part; physical, emotional, behavioral and psychological.. Taken correctly, homeopathy relieves pains and shocks of the body and the spirit, (after an accident, an operation, in case of bruising, toothache, depression, emotional fragility, before and after a general anesthesia etc.) it also cures the problems of infections, colds, difficult digestion, otitis, diarrhea, bronchitis, etc.) It is also perfect to treat allergies, look after chronic diseases, skin problems, etc…
Of course you still need to help the sick animal ingest granules, several times a day if not more.. If you are fortunate, he might love them (this was the case of Pucci, my small rabbit which was crazy about these little sweeties), but if your furry friend is more reluctant, it is necessary to trick them .. You can either melt them in water, or hide them in his treats. Last option, you can put them directly into his mouth (as far back as possible, so that he does not spit out; -)
Concerning the dosage (CH), we can take 4 OR 5 CH if it is local , for acute and sudden infections which quickly evolve (rabies, toothache, migraine, fever) 2 or 3 granules every 15-20 minutes, then space out according to the improvement. We can use the average dilutions, 7 or 9 ch if it is a general problem, and the highest dilutions 12, 15, 30 HPS are reserved for deeper, more chronic, allergic disorders, or if it is a behavioral problem..If in doubt, do not hesitate to ask advice from a specialist;)
Here is a list of what tubes of homeopathic medicine to have in your pets pharmacy (and these work for you too)
Arnica 5ch Facilitate healing, and reduces bruising from surgery, blows, accidents etc.. Before a surgery or a general anesthesia, give 1 dose of each : Arnica, Gelsemium and Nux Vomica 8 days before and after the D.day 😉
Nux vomica 5ch For nausea, or to help the body recover from a general anesthesia
Staphysagria 5ch Help the healing of a wound, or after surgery
Gelsenium 7ch In case of apprehension before an event, a change, shock (nerves), stress etc.
Thuya 5ch After a vaccination ..
Apis 5ch In case of swollen and hot oedema, eczema and to treat insect bites or jellyfishes stings, you can give Apis 5 ch + Ledum 5ch, 3 granules of each, 3 times a day .
Belladona 5ch For sun allergies, burns, fever or even abcès.. In case of fever, Belladona 5 ch, Mercurius and Pyrogenium 5ch : 3 granules of each 3 times a day till the sick one feels better 😉
Bach flowers to heal the mind, body and soul ..
Animals are very sensitive and susceptible beings which are also prone to feelings, blockages, fears, moments of depression, mourning… And they too experience somatization disorders.. They are also just like sponges, in the same way that children are, and they absorb and understand our moods, feelings , our stress, fears, and our pain etc… And often the animal have the same fears, behavior, blockages as their owner, except an animal can express more freely without limits and barriers by somatizing, being depressed or even being sick, as opposed to us, who often hide our feelings and problems .. And it is for this very reason that Bach flowers can be useful to our animals ( and their masters too, if they wish, but that is another story)
Bach flowers re balance the mental state, and help calm the feelings, stress, fears, which allows the animal to find peace and an internal balance .. So there are 38 Bach flowers as well as specific combinations to target precise problems .. it is really necessary to choose the one that is adapted to the problem, so it is very important to understand and find the specific issue. To ask for advice, go to your veterinarian or a Bach flowers specialist. My vet sometimes makes me specific mixtures which correspond to the current for example ..
Some Bach flowers to have handy in your pharmacy:
Walnut : This is to help the animal adapt and not dread a change, so that it feels protected and safe, or if he is too close and inseparable from his master, or other animals in a negative way .
Pet rescue (or the normal Rescue) :For shocks, anxiety, stress (before a visit to the vet or an operation for example.)
The elixir travel For any travel by plane, boat, the jet lag etc.: several drops behind ears before, during and after traveling…
Concerning the intake, as I mentioned in the article on Rescue, we either choose Bach flowers for animals (Pet rescue without alcohol), or the normal rescue which can be diluted in spring water in a small phial. In the case of the other elixirs, several drops behind the nape of the neck are enough, or 2 drops diluted in water to put in the mouth of the animal several times a day, for a few days, weeks, or for life according to the problem (ex: a traumatized, tortured, beaten animal, or an abandoned one often needs a long term treatment to help him to overcome his heartbreak)
The magnetizer & reiki ..
Reiki treatments or a session with a magnetizer, are equally effective for our animal friends, when carried out by competent professionals of course. To compliment the treatments listed below, or if you feel that your animal needs them: Energetic treatments like Reiki, or treatments carried out by a magnetizer are excellent to reestablish good energy circulation, and it will go where there is a blockage, whether it be physical or physiological…The magnetizer can equally intervene on physical problems like skin defects (eczema for example), burns, physiological blockages or behavioral problems, stress, depression etc… The Reiki is used to clean, purify and balance everything, relieve stress, help cope with death, trauma, and help to ease the animals problems that he has inherited from his master, who should also treat himself to a session from time to time…The advantage of Reiki is that touching the animal is not always necessary…This treatment therefore can be used across an aquarium or a cage if the animal is wild, hurt or dangerous…and Reiki can also be practiced from a distance.
Who to go to ?
Veterinarians who practice these specialties are also “normal” veterinarians, but they favor these soft methods before using drastic measures which are not always necessary, or as a supplement to the traditional medicine.. In every case, the more open you are to natural care (osteopath homeopathy, Bach flowers etc.) the more effective it will be on the animal… Here are the addresses which I know and which I recommend in Paris and Avignon.. I would like to thank Madam Bardavid, my great osteopathic veterinarian who gave me invaluable advice for this article.
- Paris :
Madame Bardavid : osteopathic vet/homeopathy /acupuncturist / Bach flowers etc.. @Reuilly Diderot.
Monsieur AndrezjN, magnetizer and energetician @Bastille .. I like him very much, he’s a great healer for humans as well as for animals ..
I will also give you the address for the Advetia clinic for all dogs, cats and other domestic animals. She is excellently equipped and perfect for more « heavy » treatments » or for operations for every kind of animals as they are all vet specialists (surgery, dentistry, internal medicine, oral specialists, radiology etc)..There is also a specialist for “special pets” such as rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, parrots etc (Doctor Quinton), who is also very good, it is actually him who operates successfully on my rabbits each time.
As far as the Reiki is concerned, my reiki master is retired, so if you have any adress to recommend ? 😉
- Avignon :
Doc Van dermissen Osteopathic Vet, surgeon, herbal medicine expert etc ..
- To find an osteo or an acupunctor in France & elsewhere
Check here ..but if you have any good addresses for an osteopath, homeopath, or acupunctor vet, a good healer, a reiki master, or a magnetizer to recommend in other regions / countries, do not hesitate to share in the comment section of this post !
